Featuring the U.S. premiere of WE ARE NOT ALONE, a short film commissioned by The Front and directed by Jodi Wille (Director of THE SOURCE FAMILY), a Unarius photography exhibition, costume display, art installation, workshop, and a sneak peek at Unarius’ greatest filmic achievement --  a new, pristine 16mm print transfer of the outsider interstellar fantasia THE ARRIVAL (1980)

Los Angeles -- On Sunday, August 21st, as the closing night party for Women of Cinefamily Weekend presented by BB Dakota, Cinefamily, The Front and friends will converge under the stars at The Standard Hotel, Hollywood, to celebrate the philosophies, style, and artistic achievements of the creatively prolific UFO group The Unarius Academy of Science.

The event is free and open to the public. It begins with a hands-on creativity and clairvoyance workshop led by the Unariuns and then a ceremonial release of 33 white doves from the spaceship atop the Unarius Space Cadillac. Unarius-inspired bites made by ALMA and speciality drinks will be available for purchase. DJ Don Bolles (of The Germs and Fancy Space People) will be spinning out-of-this-world tunes before the show. The evening continues with the US premiere of Jodi Wille’s new short documentary film, WE ARE NOT ALONE (11 mins, 2016), commissioned by The Front (a female-founded online video network), a half-hour mixtape of Unarius’ greatest hits curated by Cinefamily, and ends with a sneak peek of a new, pristine 16mm print transfer of the Unariun-made film, THE ARRIVAL (1981).

Develop Your Clairvoyant and Creative Potential: An Art Workshop for Everyone

($10 donation suggested. RSVP to Uriel@unarius.org)

Enhance your creative and psychic abilities through your participation in an inspirational, hands-on workshop. Discover where inspiration truly comes from and how to overcome mental blocks to unleash your creative potential. Unariuns Lani Calvert, Billie McIntyre, and Paula Greenwood will facilitate the workshop, which will include an opportunity to create something to take home, using the medium of your choice. Materials will be provided or bring your own if you have them.

About the Unarius art exhibition:

The art exhibition at the lobby in The Standard is curated by Jodi Wille and The Unariuns and includes 16 large photographic prints from the Unariun archive (many never before displayed in public), books, videos, and other ephemera, and a live interactive component in The Standard “box” featuring a live person in Unariun costume embodying the inner-dimensional and external activities of a Unariun student--watching Unariun films, reading Unariun books, tuning into the Space Brothers for guidance, and/or creating by drawing or writing.

About Unarius Academy of Science

The Unarius Academy of Science was founded in 1954 and promotes spiritual growth through clairvoyant guidance, principles of reincarnation and communication with benevolent spirit guides. In the mid-70s-mid-80s, with their exuberant leader, Ruth E. Norman, aka Archangel Uriel--a flamboyant figure with a fondness for glittery dresses and rainbow capes—the Unariuns embarked on a radical mission: to spread their “interdimensional science of life” to the masses. As part of their outreach, the Unarians created elaborate psychodramatic “documentaries”: films of Uriel and the students channeling and re-enacting their previous lives together on Earth and other planets, no matter how debauched or outlandish — for purposes of spiritual healing.

Utilizing otherworldly, hand-crafted costumes and makeup, guerilla location-filming techniques, elaborate sets and ingenious no-budget special effects, this ambitious collective produced a legacy of some of the most  mind-shattering, oddly uplifting gems of American outsider cinema, transforming the lives of many of the students in the process.

About the recent rediscovery of Unarius films

Bootlegged and coveted by collectors for decades, Unarius films and videos have recently been re-introduced and presented on the large screen by Jodi Wille and the Unariuns to sold-out audiences in Los Angeles (The Cinefamily, 2014), San Francisco (San Francisco International Film Festival, 2015), and London (The Horse Hospital, June 2016). Wille is currently developing the story of Unarius into a feature film and documentary series. The Unariuns continue to produce videos and workshops illustrating Unariun principles and operate out of their headquarters in El Cajon, California.
